Outline: The Russian Revolution
The Russian Revolution: a series of revolutions in Russia in 1917, which destroyed the Tsarist autocracy and led to the creation of the Soviet Union. The Tsar was replaced by a provisional government in the February Revolution. In the October Revolution, this provisional government was replaced by a Bolshevik (Communist) government headed by Vladimir Lenin.
The February Revolution: the first of two revolutions in Russia in 1917, whose immediate result was the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II, the collapse of Imperial Russia and the end of the Romanov dynasty. Tsarism was replaced by a Russian Provisional Government under Prince Georgy Lvov, an alliance between liberals and socialists who wanted to instigate political reform, creating a democratically-elected executive and constituent assembly.
Vladimir Lenin: Russian Marxist revolutionary and communist politician who led the October Revolution of 1917. As leader of the Bolsheviks, he headed the Soviet state during its initial years (1917–1924), as it fought to establish control of Russia in the Russian Civil War and worked to create a socialist economic system.
